Background
I was trained in traditional theatre studies and film history. Past research covers avant-garde theatre and film, modernist literature, especially poetry and drama, and performance theory. My most recent work addresses the role of live theatre and text in digital contexts and the intersection of digital technology in performance theory and practice.
Digital interests
In 2005, I co-founded the Intermedia Performance Studio with colleagues in Media Study and Computer Science. Together, we've produced several performances, demonstrations, and papers that address the intersection of performance, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence. Most recently, we produced WoyUbu: An Intermedia Mashup, including two different plays (Georg Büchner's Woyzeck and Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi) with robots, video games, digital projections and performed simultaneously on two sides of a wall.
In addition to my performance work, I continue to work on performance as the intersection of text, bodies, and digital technology, currently the subject of my co-edited anthology on theatre in digital culture with colleagues in the Research Group for Intermediality in Theatre & Performance and a monograph in progress.
