This chunk was excised when the new mission statement was added:

The proposal submitted to the Dean by Cris Miller and Maureen Jameson in August 2007 might prove a helpful conversation starter as we develop a mission and vision for the group.

Two (long) documents that might help us conceive our mission/vision as well are: http://www.acls.org/cyberinfrastructure/OurCulturalCommonwealth.pdf and http://www.clir.org/pubs/reports/pub132/pub132.pdf The latter focuses on American Literature and includes detailed descriptions of websites etc. that can be skipped over, but it also contains useful taxonomies and overviews re the state of digital work in American literature...could be applied to other areas as well. --Austin
